A Couples' Enrichment Weekend Retreat

LGBT Experiences

Heart To Heart was founded in the early 1990s to address the lack of inclusivity in traditional marriage/couples enrichment groups.  Several Unitarian Universalist couples, after attending Marriage Encounter, wanted to take the message and the techniques of personal story-sharing and deep listening to a nondenominational group that would include committed same-sex and opposite-sex couples.

Since the first Heart To Heart retreat in 1994, LGBT couples have been participants and members of the leadership teams.  Many LGBT participants continue with ongoing groups after the weekend experience.  Heart To Heart is committed to maintaining a vibrant LGBT presence at all of our weekends.  Not only do we believe that any couple can benefit from the Heart To Heart structure; we believe that all participants benefit from learning about the similarities and uniqueness of diverse relationships.

If you would like to speak further to one of the lesbian or gay leaders on one of our teams, please contact the leaders of any Upcoming Retreat.

It happens

all the time in heaven,

And some day

It will begin to happen

Again on earth -

That men and women who are married,

And men and men who are lovers,

And women and women who give each other light,

Often will get down on their knees

And while so tenderly holding their lover's hand,

With tears in their eyes,

Will sincerely speak, saying,

"My dear,

How can I be

more loving to you;

How can I be more kind?"

~ Hafiz

"I am left feeling

anything is possible

—that I can change,

that we can grow closer

and sustain and grow

our love."
